TIME LINE OF IRAN–ISRAEL CONFLICT

Kindly share this article:

1979 – Iranian Revolution

Iran’s Islamic Revolution transformed the country into an Islamic Republic, fundamentally changing its foreign policy. Since then, Iran has been openly hostile toward Israel, rejecting its legitimacy and supporting groups opposed to it.

1980s–2000s – Proxy Engagements

For decades, Iran engaged Israel indirectly by supporting allied militant groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Palestinian territories. These proxy relationships fueled multiple conflicts and periodic flare-ups around the region.

Early 2000s – Nuclear Tensions Rise

Iran’s nuclear program became a major point of contention. The United States, Israel and Western nations expressed concern that Tehran’s nuclear activities could lead to nuclear weapons development.

April 2024 – First Direct Strike

Iran launched over 300 missiles and drones toward Israel in April 2024 in a direct attack—marking a shift from proxy skirmishes to direct hostilities between the two states.

October 2024 – Continued Escalation

On 26 October 2024, Israel struck multiple targets within Iran’s territory, further worsening tensions and signalling that direct military engagement had become more frequent.

June 2025 – “12-Day War”

On June 13, 2025, Israel launched a major assault targeting Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure, deploying fighter jets and drones across dozens of sites. Iran responded with missiles and drone bombardments aimed at Israeli territory. After heavy exchanges, a ceasefire was declared on June 24, 2025, ending the intense, short-lived conflict.

Post-2025 Tension

Despite the ceasefire, both countries continued military preparations, with Iran conducting naval drills and Israel maintaining heightened readiness. Sporadic clashes and strikes continued to underline unresolved hostilities.

February 2026 – Renewed Major Combat

The conflict escalated further on 28 February 2026, when Israel and the United States launched coordinated military operations — dubbed “Operation Epic Fury” — against Iranian military targets, igniting fresh hostilities and prompting swift retaliation across the Middle East.
