The wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has reportedly died after suffering critical injuries during a recent US-Israeli military strike, according to Iranian state-aligned media.
Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, 79, passed away on Monday after remaining in a coma since the weekend attack, the semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported.
The airstrikes, carried out jointly by the United States and Israel on Saturday, reportedly killed Khamenei along with several members of his family and senior Iranian figures. Iranian authorities had already confirmed on Sunday that the strikes resulted in the deaths of the Supreme Leader, his daughter, grandson, son-in-law, and one of his daughters-in-law.
The large-scale offensive marked one of the most significant escalations in the long-running tensions between Tehran and its regional rivals.
Following the attacks, Iran launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and several Gulf states hosting American military installations.
Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly accused Tehran of developing nuclear and ballistic missile programs that could threaten Israel and US allies across the Middle East. However, Iranian authorities continue to insist that their nuclear activities are strictly for peaceful purposes and deny seeking nuclear weapons.
The latest developments have heightened fears of a wider regional conflict, as diplomatic and military tensions continue to intensify across the Middle East.
