Retired U.S. Army General Michael Flynn has cited Israeli media reports confirming the death of Iran’s newly appointed acting Supreme Leader, Alireza Arafi, also known as Ayatollah Arafi.
According to the reports referenced by Flynn, Arafi was appointed to the role following the death of Iran’s long-serving Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, on February 28. His appointment was widely viewed as an urgent move by Iran’s clerical establishment to maintain political stability during a period of heightened national tension.
However, Arafi’s time in office was reportedly brief, making his tenure one of the shortest in the country’s modern history.
As of the time of reporting, Iranian state authorities have not issued an official confirmation, and independent verification of the claims remains pending. The development, if confirmed, could mark another significant shift in Iran’s political leadership amid ongoing regional instability.
