Majid Khademi, the intelligence chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been confirmed dead following an Israeli airstrike carried out early Monday, according to Iranian state media and multiple international reports. The strike marks another major escalation in the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, with Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz later confirming that Khademi was among the senior figures targeted in the latest round of military operations.
Israeli Officials Confirm High-Value Target Strike
In a statement following the operation, Katz said Israel was focused on targeting top military and intelligence leaders linked to attacks on civilians. He added that Iranian leaders now face increasing pressure as Israel continues what it described as a campaign to dismantle command structures linked to the Revolutionary Guards. Khademi was reportedly among 25 people killed during a broader wave of coordinated U.S.-Israeli airstrikes across multiple locations in Iran on Monday.
Iran Launches Retaliatory Missiles and Drones
In response, Iran reportedly launched fresh drone and missile attacks targeting locations in the Gulf and Israel, further intensifying regional tensions. One of the retaliatory missile strikes reportedly hit a residential building in Haifa, killing at least two people late Sunday and raising fears of a wider escalation.
Senior Iranian Officials Continue to Fall
Khademi is the latest in a growing list of senior Iranian military and security figures killed since the war began. Among those previously reported dead are former security chief Ali Larijani and IRGC commander-in-chief Mohammad Pakpour, underscoring the sustained focus on Iran’s leadership structure.
Analysts Point to Iran’s Decentralized Command Structure
Despite the repeated loss of senior commanders, defense analysts say Iran’s decentralized military command system has allowed the government and allied forces to continue coordinating retaliatory operations.
This structure is believed to reduce dependence on a single leadership chain, enabling missile and drone attacks to continue even after targeted strikes eliminate top officials.
The killing of IRGC intelligence chief Majid Khademi represents another significant blow to Iran’s military leadership as the conflict with Israel enters a more dangerous phase.
